LOCATION & TERROIR
Les Sommets de Loire isDomaine Sérol’s negoce created in 2016.At the roots of la Loire, the vineyards on the Côte Roannaise are located on the eastern foothills of the Massif Central. The altitude is approximately 400 metres, above the river fog. On these granite hillsides, the landscapes are varied. Vinesrub shoulders with woods and meadows. This natural diversitypromotes a good health of the vine and a rich terroir.
VINEYARD& FRUIT
The vineyards are plantedin high density (8 000 vines per hectare) and are South East facing - they are all between 20 and 50 years old.Gamay St Romain grapes have berries which are more loosely spacedout than the Gamay grown in Beaujolais. It tends to develop moremillerandage, producing berries that differ greatly in size including verysmall berries with fewer seeds meaning lower yields than the Gamayin Beaujolais, and producing very interesting and lush wine.
VINIFICATION
Once hand-picked, the grapes are brought to thewinery where they are carefully selected and 50% destemmed. The vinification lasted around 8 months in concrete tanks, during which themaceration and fermentation was slow and natural, respecting the fruit. The 50% of whole bunch brings up the wine freshness considering theparticular dry and hot vintage. Infusion-like, the extraction of the tannin and colour was very gentle for a light and fruity Gamay win.
